Ormiston South Parade Academy (OSPA) in Grimsby is celebrating again today, following the release of new primary school league tables, which has once again highlighted the continued success of the academy.
OSPA, which is sponsored by Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), was placed in the top 3% of primary academies in the country, for the progress that pupils made in Reading, Writing and Maths. OSPA also ranked 2nd in North East Lincolnshire for the progress made by pupils in Reading, 3rd in Maths and 5th in Writing.
Overall, an impressive 84% of pupils achieved at least the expected standard in all three subjects – significantly above the national average of 64% and 5 percentage points higher than the excellent results achieved by the academy in 2017.
In writing, 88% of pupils achieved at least the expected standard, 84% did so in reading and 86% in maths. Those results are 10, 9 and 10 percentage points respectively higher than the national average for the individual subjects.
Disadvantaged students at the academy also performed particularly well, with 88% achieving at least the expected standard in reading, writing and maths – an impressive 24% above the national average for all pupils.
Today’s excellent results follow another hugely successful year for the academy, with continued improvement being driven by the academy’s strong leadership team, led by Executive Principal Jane Nolan. Jane was announced winner of the impressive ‘Primary Headteacher of the Year’ award at the TES awards earlier in the year, as well as winning the Silver Pearson Teaching award for ‘Headteacher of the Year’. The academy also won Silver Pearson Teaching award for ‘School of the year – Making a difference’.
The academy also received a visit from Ofsted’s Regional Director, Cathryn Kirby, who joined with the academy in celebrating its success and best practice sharing.
Jane Nolan, Executive Principal of OSPA and OAT’s Primaries Development Coordinator, said:
“We are thrilled to be celebrating another excellent set of results at OSPA. They are testament to the hard work and commitment of our staff, pupils and their supportive families, and we are extremely proud of these achievements. It is a fantastic way to round of what has been a hugely successful year for the academy.
“At OSPA, our academy motto, ‘Believe in Yourself’, underpins our approach. We are all committed to ensuring that every child is given the support and opportunities they need to thrive and to make the best possible progress, whatever their starting point or individual needs”.
Nick Hudson, Chief Executive Officer of Ormiston Academies Trust, said:
“Ormiston South Parade Academy is strongly committed to raising aspirations and broadening horizons of all pupils, no matter what their background, and today’s league table results once again confirm the success of this approach and the fantastic outcomes it delivers for pupils at the academy.”
