Imagine floating high above land and sea on a bed of clouds, silently sweeping by on a billowing breeze. Back down to earth, let’s take a walk outdoors. But what should we wear? Wellington boots? A sun hat? Maybe a warm coat? How do we know what the weather will be like today?
This term our exciting new topic is ‘Splendid Skies’. We will start the term with a focus on Bonfire Night, leading on to the Splendid Skies which involves focussing on the different seasons and the weather.
In Maths this term children will focus their number skills. We are introducing a new way of learning through ‘Effective Maths’. Effective Maths allows children to gain a deeper understanding of the number system and place value.
We start with basic punctuation (full stops, capital letters). We will be using the phonics skills acquired in the Letters and Sounds phonics system to develop basic sentence structure. We will have a focus on poetry, learning different types of poems and putting actions to them, ready to perform them. We will be writing weather reports and discussing the types of weather that we prefer.
For Science we will be focussing on shadows and shadow puppets. We will be measuring the wind speed using an anemometer. We will be making kites and investigating the different types of clouds.
We will focus on Bonfire Night – creating Bonfire / firework pictures using a range of medium.
Using a range of materials creatively to design and make products such as kites and weather pictures using different materials.
This half term we will be designing and making rockets. We will be learning how to collage in order to design and make clouds and to represent different skies.
We will send a message via balloon up into the sky and talk about where we think it will land. We will research different climates from around the world.
This term our focus is dance.
