Literacy including spelling punctuation and grammar
Our Power of Reading book this term is a novel called The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tullane by Kate DiCamillo. Edward Tullane is an award winning story that follows the life of a china rabbit. Through this novel we will be developing our fiction and non-fiction writing as well as our reading skills.
Our Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling learning will focus on revision of the year 3 and 4 curriculum with a particular focus on spelling.
In maths this term children will focus on the following skills:
Length, height, area and perimeter
Volume and mass
Revision of operations work
In science we will continue to be learning about living things their habitats, learning about both animals and humans. We will be grouping and classifying living thing and looking at environments and habitats. As well as this we will be looking at the water cycle in greater depth.
We are going to be continuing our topic ‘Blue Abyss’ for the entire summer term.
Grab your wetsuit! We’re going deep into an underwater world of incredible coral and mysterious sea creatures. We will be heading to The Deep in Hull to learn about life in the ocean. Can you pick a favourite fish, plant or animal?
In this topic we will cover the following curriculum areas:
History: the history of Grimsby and the fishing industry.
Art and Design: famous seascapes and observational drawings.
Design and Technology: designing and making a submarine.
Geography: seas and oceans of the world, The Great Barrier Reef and environmental issues.
PE: we will be heading outside for ball skills, athletics, tennis and rounders. As well as practicing for sports day.
French: we will be covering the alphabet, colours, numbers to 31, days, months, seasons and special days.
Computing: we will continue programming using Scratch.
SMSC: we will be using the Votes4Schools materials to explore national and global issues.
