Spring Term 1


Ever wondered what goes on under the surface of the earth? We will be travelling deep down to the core of the earth to find out what it’s made up of and how natural disasters occur. Delve into our new topic for scorching lava, pyroclastic flows and rumbling tremors.

This term our exciting new topic is ‘tremors’.  This topic will cover the following curriculum areas;

Science: The learning will focus on rocks.

Geography: We will be using maps to locate tectonic plates.

Design Technology/ Art: We will be using collage and textiles to create products.

Computing: We will be learning to research online and how to present our information. We will also be introducing computer programming software Scratch.

French: We will be learning basic classroom language.

RE: Weekly visits from Mrs Dellar.

Literacy including Spelling Punctuation and Grammar

In literacy we will be starting the term with a brand new book, ‘The Stone Mouse’.  This is a non-fiction book which follows a family moving to the coast for the summer and their adventures with a talking pebble. ‘Firebird’ is our second story of the term and is also nonfiction.

Our Grammar, punctuation and spelling learning will focus on the following skills;

  • Ongoing weekly spelling rules
  • Suffixes: er, ed and est
  • Statements, exclamation sentences and questions
  • Direct speech
  • ‘A’ and ‘an’


In Maths this term the children will focus their learning on the following skills;

  • Geometry
  • Money
  • Place Value
  • Multiplication and division
