We believe it is important for pupils to have as much experience as possible of the world beyond the school gates. Throughout the year we invite speakers from a wide range of backgrounds and professions to talk to pupils about their work and their lives. So far this year pupils have met:
We are always looking for new speakers – please do get in touch if you would like to help raise the aspirations of our pupils too!
This year our Year 6 pupils will be taking part in youth social action through Step Up To Serve for the very first time. You can find out more about this exciting initiative by clicking on the following link: http://www.iwill.org.uk
Keeping up to date with current affairs and news at a local, regional, national and international level is important to us at OSPA. Each class in the school is divided into News Teams who are responsible for reporting on key issues of the week. Pupils research news items as homework tasks and in school by reading FirstNews http://info.firstnews.co.uk, a weekly newspaper for young people, and by listening to the news on programmes such as Newsround. Every Friday one News Team in each class reports on their findings. In this way all pupils become more informed about the world around us and it boosts speaking and listening skills too!
